Scotch Plains: A Storied Town With A Cool History

Scotch Plains is one of our favorite towns in New Jersey to travel to for Mobile Massage. It's not too far from civilization, but just far enough to have enough space and not be cramped. Now more built up with a good amount of nice neighborhoods and beautiful homes, Scotch Plains is most famous historically for a Revolutionary battle that occurred along Raritan Road. I've been lost over there trying to find clients' homes on more than one occasion! Lol

The Aunt Betty Frazee House is a colonial-era farmhouse that is a landmark in Scotch Plains. In 1777, at the height of the Revolutionary War between the Colonies and Britain, British Generals approached Elizabeth Frazee trying to buy bread she had baked that day, When she replied that she offers the bread not in love but fear, they declined. Definitely a tough woman in American history who is often overlooked.

And believe it or not, Scotch Plains was home to the nation's first African-American Country Club, its inception happening only a few years after the Civil War called the Shady Rest Golf and Country Club. That is certainly significant, in terms of social history. That's the site of the current Scotch Hills Municipal Golf Course. Scotch Plains is still pastoral and spacious with many other golf courses as well.

Judy Blume, kids' author, wrote her famous books while living in Scotch Plains. Many of us remember her books from elementary school! (I know I do!) It's incredible just how much historical relevance one can find when taking care to actually look. Scotch Plains is a wonderful place to raise a family or run a business, and has a lot of historical relevance as well.
